Talha urges PM to take up Dr Aafia’s issue in US

ISLAMABAD: Chairman of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Interior Senator Talha Mehmood has urged the Prime Minister to take up the issue of Dr Aafia Siddiqui with the US President on the sidelines of Nuclear Security Summit.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday the Chairman said Dr Aafia’s trial in US was the violation of International law. Government is not taking seriously the repatriation of Dr Aafia, he added.

Senator Talha said that the DNA report and fingerprints have confirmed that the 12 years old girl was Dr Aafia’s daughter Maryum. She was recovered from a US national John from Bagram Airbase Afghanistan, he added.

Faisal Saleh urges Opp to protest Aafia’s detention

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) parliamentary leader Faisal Saleh Hayat on Wednesday urged opposition parties to stage a protest and sit-in outside the US embassy in favour of Dr
Aafia Siddiqui.

Taking part in a discussion on an adjournment motion regarding the bomb blast at the Special Investigation Building in Lahore, Faisal criticised both the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for only targeting the Musharraf-era’s policy. He said both parties had failed to bring any positive change in the country despite a lapse of two years. They did not waste any opportunity for criticising General (r) Musharraf and his party, but despite the mandate given by the people in the 2008 elections, not a single policy of Musharraf has been changed,
he claimed.

Speaking on the floor of the House, Faisal said the PML-N should play its role as a major opposition party to press the government for change. He suggested the opposition leader to lead a rally and a sit-in in front of the US embassy against the detention of Dr Aafia. He said no one from the opposition or the treasury discussed the issues of Dr Aafia and drone attacks with US Secretary of States Hillary Clinton during her visit
to Pakistan.

Zardari urges Holbrooke to repatriate Dr Aafia Siddiqui

KARACHI – Jamaat-e-Islami Sindh (JI) on Friday expressed deepest concern over injustice and discrimination with Dr Aafia in American court where she was convicted even when the evidence brought before the judge proved false.
This was said in a joint resolution after the meeting of advisory committee of Jamaat-e-Islami Sindh here.

The JI leaders said that it has become loud and clear that American justice system is based on discrimination and it has duality while delivering justice to Muslims. They angered over the American court by saying that witness were proved false but it convicted Aafia as guilty for the sake of protecting the moral of American soldiers which amounts to denial of justice by the court. The JI leaders said that the court issued a verdict that is based on prejudice and it afflicts the a woman and the entire Muslim Ummah.

PM urges US to repatriate Aafia

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday demanded early repatriation of Dr Aafia Siddiqui from the US to Pakistan.

The PM while talking to Chairman of US Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee Senator John Kerry and Richard Armitage conveyed sentiments of the 170 million countrymen to the US officials regarding the illegal abduction and conviction of Dr Aafia Siddiqui for a crime that she never committed. The Prime Minister suggested to the US officials that in order to improve perceptions attached to the US image in the country, Pakistan should be de-listed from amongst the countries whose nationals had been marked for special screenings at the US airports. It is relevant to mention here that Dr Aafia was abducted by the FBI agents near Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, and had been languishing in the notorious US jails since 2003.

Nawaz urges more diplomatic efforts for Aafia’s release

LAHORE: Chief of Pakistan Muslim League-N Nawaz Sharif has urged the government to step up diplomatic efforts for the release of Dr. Aafia.

Nawaz Sharif demanded this during a meeting with Dr. Aafia’s sister Dr.Fouzia who met him at his residence in Raiwind.

Dr. Fouzia has thanked PML-N for its principle stand and requested Nawaz Sharif to raise voice at every forum in future also.
