Aafia’s family says it has nothing to do with funds campaignKARACHI: Until a few weeks ago, banners asking for Rs1.5 million in donations for the legal defence of Aafia Siddiqui adorned several neighbourhoods in Karachi.

Aafia is serving an 86-year sentence in the US on charges of attempting to kill US officials in Afghanistan. She is also widely believed to have been supporting al Qaeda.

Those banners, according to Aafia’s sister Dr Fauzia Siddiqui, have been removed at her behest as Fauzia does not believe this is the “right way” to ask for money and the banners were put up while she was not in Pakistan.

“It is not appropriate to ask for alms and donations for daughters. It is a daughter’s right.”

Jamaat-e-Islami to observe Dr Aafia Siddique Day today

LAHORE - On the appeal of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Syed Munawar Hasan, JI will observe the Dr Aafia Siddiqui Day on Friday to express its solidarity with the respected daughter of the nation, jailed by a US court for 86 years for alleged terrorism. Rallies and seminars calling for Dr Aafia’s release will be held in federal and provincial capitals besides major cities.
A big rally led by JI chief Syed Munawar Hasan, Dr Aafia’s sister Dr Fauzia Siddiqui and JI Karachi chief Muhamamd Husain Mehnati will be held from Empress Road to Regal in Karachi. In the Punjab capital, a women and children rally will be held outside the Lahore Press Club in the afternoon.

JI to observe ‘Dr Aafia day’ on September 16

LAHORE - The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) will observe Dr Aafia Day on September 16 to highlight the need for Dr Aafia Siddiqui’s release and to express solidarity with the families of missing people.

Protest meetings on the detention of Dr Aafia will be held on the day outside press clubs in all major cities and JI leaders will address the meetings in their respective areas.

MULTAN: Dr. Fozia Sadique sister of Dr Aafia Sadique said that she is ready to forgive everyone when Dr Aafia returns at home.

Talking to media persons here at Multan airport on Friday, Dr Fozia Sadique sister of Dr Aafia Sadique, detained in American jail said that all allegations on Dr Aafia are false and nation would not be satisfied till release of Dr Aafia.

She said that whole nation demands back of Dr Aafia on Pakistani land from where she was picked up.

US turns down Pak Govt’s offer to trade terror-suspect Aafia for CIA contractor Davis

The Pakistan Government offered to trade double murder-accused CIA contractor Raymond Davis with Pakistani neuroscientist Aafia Siddiqui, who is suspected by US intelligence to be an al Qaeda operative and is currently serving 86 years in federal prison for attempted murder.

According to a senior US administration official and a Pakistani official involved in the negotiations to free Davis, the Pakistan Government proposed trading the American for Aafia, but the US government immediately dismissed the offer.

“The Pakistanis have raised it. We are not going to pursue it,” ABC News quoted the US official, as saying.

Prosecution wrapping up its case at Aafia’s trial; defence moves to stop defendant from testifying

NEW YORK, Jan 27 (APP): The trial of Aafia Siddiqui, the Pakistani neuroscientist who is charged with attempted murder, entered into new phase as the prosecution prepared to rest its case after its last witness completed his testimony on Tuesday.After a closing statement by the prosecution, Dr. Siddiqui’s defence team will start putting its witnesses on the stand on Wednesday and also show a two-hour video to the jurors in support of their case that she is not guilty of any wrongdoing.

Court officials said that the process would be completed by Friday and the jury would go into deliberations next week to prepare the verdict.

“We are very much on schedule,” U.S. District Judge Richard Berman told the court after eight hours of proceedings, spread over two sessions, on Tuesday. In all the prosecution brought 18 witnesses to the stand since January 19, when the trial began.

Dr. Aafia’s son arrives; handed over to family

ISLAMABAD, Sep 15 (APP): Muhammad Ahmad, son of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui arrived here on Monday evening after the Afghan government handed him over Buy propecia online to Pakistani authorities in Kabul. Muhammad Ahmad was later handed over to his family in Islamabad, media reports said.

Earlier Pakistan Press Counsellor in Afghanistan Naeem Khan talking to PTV confirmed the taking over the custody of Muhammad Ahmed and added he was being sent to Pakistan.

He said the Afghan Ministry of Home Affairs handed over Dr. Aafia’s son to Pakistan Consulate in Kabul at 1030 hours on Monday.

Talha urges PM to take up Dr Aafia’s issue in US

ISLAMABAD: Chairman of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Interior Senator Talha Mehmood has urged the Prime Minister to take up the issue of Dr Aafia Siddiqui with the US President on the sidelines of Nuclear Security Summit.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday the Chairman said Dr Aafia’s trial in US was the violation of International law. Government is not taking seriously the repatriation of Dr Aafia, he added.

Senator Talha said that the DNA report and fingerprints have confirmed that the 12 years old girl was Dr Aafia’s daughter Maryum. She was recovered from a US national John from Bagram Airbase Afghanistan, he added.

12 years old daughter of Dr. Aafia returned to the maternal aunt today in Karachi.

Dr. Aafia SiddiquiAafia Siddiqui is a Pakistani Muslim neuroscientist and MIT alumna. She was mother of three. She was convicted in NY City of assault with a deadly weapon attempting to kill an American soldier and FBI agents who were seeking to question Buy propecia online her. She had disappeared in March 2003 after being accused of being an al-Qaeda member. She resurfaced when she was arrested July 2008 by the Afghan Police. The arrest news was spread in the national and international media and here is just one instance. Her relatives asserted that she does not have any connection with al-Qaeda. After her conviction, thousands of people protested, and the Taliban threatened to kill captured American soldiers.

Custody of the son, Muhammad Ahmed, of the detained scientist in America, was handed over to Ambassador of Pakistan in Kabul by the Afghanistan Government in September 2008 after being imprisoned for 5 years. He was only 6 when he was abducted.
