Karachi: The Human Rights Network (HRN) on Saturday welcome the return of Marium, the daughter of noted Pakistani scientist Dr Aafia Siddiqui who is presently languishing in a US jail, and demanded from the Pakistani government to take more serious efforts for the early repatriation of Dr Aafia.
Addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, here on Saturday, HRN president Intikhab Alam Soori, and general secretary Shahzad Mazhar said that the return of Marium from illegal US detention has proven that America has double standards on human rights of women and children.
Pakistani delegation urged to seek Aafia’s return
PESHAWAR: Jamaat-e-Islami Naib Amir Siraj ul Haq said Thursday that the ongoing visit of high-level Pakistani delegation to the United States for holding strategic talks would be considered a failure if it failed to secure the honorable release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqi from the US detention.
Addressing a press conference here, Haq said that Pakistani nation wants honorable return of Aafia, not the US aid.
He said that Pakistani should push for resolution of Aafia’s issue during the visit. If they return empty-handed, the visit would be declared a failure, he commented.

ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that Constitutional Reforms Committee (CRC) will hopefully complete its task till upcoming March 23.
Talking to the media persons after the conclusion session of a workshop titled “Strategic Communications, Public and Culture Diplomacy” organised at Information Service Academy, Kaira said that after the mutual consensus of other political parties and formal sanction of the Parliament, the draft of Charter of Democracy would become part of the Constitution.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will take all steps to secure the release and return home of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani neuroscientist who stands convicted by a US court for shooting at her US interrogators in Afghanistan, according to the Foreign Office on Thursday.
Aafia, 37, was convicted in a New York court on Wednesday for grabbing a US officer’s rifle while she was being questioned in 2008 in Afghanistan and firing at FBI agents and military personnel as she was wrestled to the ground. The jury gave a unanimous verdict on seven counts, including attempted murder and assault. Though guilty on two attempted murder counts, the jury said the crime was not premeditated. Aafia is a US-trained neuroscientist who spent years living in the US.
