Several events were held around the globe to mark the 8th Anniversary of the kidnapping of Aafia and her children from Karachi in March 2003 by officials of the Pakistani military government.
Groups in Pakistan commemorated the begining of Dr. Aafia’s 9th year in captivity.

Dr Aafia’s sister to stage sit-in protest at US Consulate on 16th
LAHORE: Dr Fauzia Siddiqui, sister of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, will lead a students’ rally and stage a sit-in protest in front of the US Consulate on February 16 (Tuesday), as part of her countrywide campaign for her sister’s release.
A Pakistani neuroscientist and mother of three children, Aafia was convicted by the Manhattan federal court for opening fire on US troops in Afghanistan. The jury found her guilty even after she denied the charges levelled against her.
The rally organised by the Insaaf Students Federation would start from the Punjab Assembly and end at the US Consulate situated near the Lahore Press Club. The demonstrators would also stage a sit-in protest in front of the US Consulate, where Fauzia would address the participants of the rally.
Diplomatic, legal efforts on for Aafia’s release, says Haqqani
NEW YORK: The Pakistan government is doing all it can at the diplomatic and legal fronts to secure the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani scientist detained in the US, Pakistani Ambassador Hussain Haqqani said on Friday.
Introducing a three-member “A-class” legal defence team retained by the Pakistan government to US-based Pakistani correspondents, Haqqani said the lawyers would put up a strong defence in a bid to bring an end to Aafia’s difficulties. The legal team comprises Charles Swift, Linda Moreno and Elaine Sharp.
These eminent lawyers were cleared by the Manhattan Federal Court on September 2.
