Karachi: To celebrate the birthday of Dr Aafia Siddiqui falling tomorrow (March 2nd), Pasban Pakistan has finalized its nationwide arrangements.

The president of the Pasban Pakistan, Altaf Shakoor on Sunday instructed the Pasban provincial, district, city and Taluka presidents and general secretaries to hold programs across the country to celebrate the birthday of the ‘Daughter of Nation’ in a befitting manner. In these programs social, political, religious, human rights and legal fraternity leaders will be invited, besides ensuring a massive participation of the general public.

He said that these programmes will give a loud and clear message to the rulers that the entire nation is supportinmg Dr Aafia and demanding her early release and repatriation from the US illegal detention.

Meanwhile, a flyer distributed by the Student Awareness Platform (ISAP) gave interesting facts about Dr Aafia Siddiqui.
It said that ‘the prisoner No 650’, Dr Aafia Siddiqui a Pakistani PhD scientist has got 144 honorary degrees and certificates in Neurology from different institutions of the world.

She is the only neurologist in the world having the honorary PhD from the Harvard University. Even any American does not have such qualification.

This noted scientist and scholar, also a Hafiz-e-Quran and Aalima, was kidnapped along with her three children allegedly by the FBI from Karachi, with the help of the Pakistani rulers.

She was accused of having connections with the Al-Qaeda. Now she is in a US jail, imprisoned with men, where she had lost her memory due to inhuman physical, psychological and sexual torture. The ISAP’s leaflet quoting a report of The News, August 7, 2008, said that “All her teeths have been broken and one kidney has been taken out”. Her lawyer had said on August 11, 2008: “She has been here for a week and not allowed to see a doctor even though the authorities know that she has been shot.” The flyer also quoted Yvonne Ridley: “The cries of this women echoed in the jail that it prompted the prisoners to go on hunger strike”. The leaflet mentioned her trial in a US court under the caption of “Cycle of Injustice completes”.—Agency
