Islamabad : Hundreds of protesters in the federal capital on Sunday urged the government to block Nato supply route to allied forces in Afghanistan to press for release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, who is languishing in US jail.
The protest demonstration, the largest in Islamabad on the issue of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s continuous custody in US was also participated by Dr. Fauzia Siddiqui, sister of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, who called upon citizens of the capital to rise against brutalities of America.
The rally organised by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) with the support local religious and political organisations was also participated by women, children and traders community. The protesters carrying banners, placards and posters inscribed with slogans and photos of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui were raising slogans for the release of daughter of Pakistan.
“Pakistani government should take courage to stop Nato supply to Afghanistan and Americans will be forced to release Dr. Aafia Siddiqui,” JI secretary general Liauqat Baloch said.
Baloch said 100 top personalities of political and religious parties should form a delegation to meet embassies of European countries on the issue. The envoys of these countries should be told that continuous arrest of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui would spread hatred against America and Europe and it would endanger peace of the world.
The JI leader while praising the role of judiciary in struggling for its independence, called upon the Supreme Court to come into action for recovery of missing persons in Islamabad elsewhere in the country.
Dr. Fauzia Siddiqui while narrating brutal treatment meted out to her sister said Dr. Aafia Siddiqui was being punished only because she is a Muslim and she loves her country and religion.
She said that they did want destruction of America rather they desire to rid the American people of brutal leaders and inhuman policies of their government.
Without naming any person, she said that everybody knows who handed over Dr. Aafia Siddiqui to America. “My sister was subjected to worst kind of torture and her two sons are still missing,” she said.
Addressing the rally Defense of Human Rights Chairperson Amina Masood Janjua said thousands of Pakistanis are missing from their homes and their whereabouts are still unknown.
