Peaceful march held for Aafia’s early release

ISLAMABAD – A peaceful walk held on Thursday organised by Pakistan Professional Forum to protest the conviction of Dr Aafia Siddiqui by the US court.

The peaceful walk in which representatives of civil society, a large number of students, families of missing persons and activists of Human Rights of Pakistan participated began from Kalsum Plaza Jinnah Avenue Blue Area and culminated at China Chowk.

The participants were holding placards in their hands inscribed with slogans like ‘Free Aafia’ ‘No to US friendship’ Govt recover 10,000 missing persons. They also chanted slogans. Chairperson of Defence of Human Rights Pakistan, Amina Masood Janjua, said, “We are civilised nation, as our peaceful walk witnessed this action but,” no one, she said, “should consider it our weakness.”

“If the government did not accept our genuine demand, we would take extreme step for the recovery of our dear ones,” she warned.

Amina said that Dr Aafia was a symbol of Pakistan and the struggle would continue till the prosperity of 170 million people of Pakistan, who had great concerns for this crucial issue. There are more than 10,000 people still missing and their family members do not know regarding their whereabouts, she lamented.

She also quoted the remarks of Justice Sair Ali that he made during the proceedings of the missing person case on Thursday that the issue of missing persons was the most crucial issue of the country.

She said that the whole nation was supporting call for the recovery of missing persons and if the issue did not settle through institutions, millions of the people would participate in the long march to shake the puppet rulers from the deep slumber.
