Dr Aafia’s kidnapping FIR lodged

KARACHI: The Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station here has registered an FIR for the kidnapping of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, along with her three minor children. The FIR was lodged against personnel of an unidentified law-enforcement agency, and a case was filed on the complaint of Dr Aafia’s sister.

Gulshan-e-Iqbal SHO Rustam Nawaz said they received a complaint from Dr Fauzia Siddiqui in which she stated that her younger sister, Dr Aafia Siddiqui, resident of House No: 140E, Block 7, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, on March 30, 2003, left the house for the Karachi airport, along with her three children, to board a flight to Rawalpindi. She, along with her three children, was kidnapped by a member of an unidentified law-enforcement agency en route to the airport.

SHO Nawaz said the complainant further alleged she had also submitted many applications to police stations concerned as well as government officials, including ministers, but to date no action had taken place nor was it clear which agency had kidnapped her younger sister. Furthermore, subsequently it came to their knowledge that Dr Aafia Siddiqui is in an American jail, facing trial.

SHO Nawaz said the application was forwarded to his seniors and after getting their approval, FIR-773/09 was lodged for the kidnapping of Dr Aafia Siddiqui along with her three minor children against unidentified persons or LEA personnel.

KARACHI: Gulshan-e-Iqbal police have registered a case of kidnapping Dr Aafia Siddiqui and her three children against unidentified persons on Monday. According to details, an FIR was registered under section 365/34 against unidentified kidnappers, on the complaint of Dr Fauzia Siddiqui, elder sister of the Pakistani neuroscientist detained in the US.

A team has also been formed under SSP Investigation Niaz Khoso, who thought the said victim named Dr Aafia Siddiqui went missing on March 30, 2003 along with her three children, while on her way in a cab to the Karachi Airport for Islamabad.

US authorities, on the other side, claim to have arrested Dr Aafia and one of her sons Mohammad, from Afghanistan in July 2008 and flew her to the US where her trial is underway on terrorism charges.

KARACHI: The case of kidnapping of Dr. Aafia Siddiqi has been registered on the behalf of her sister Dr. Fozia Siddiqi against unknown people at Police Station Gulshan-e-Iqbal on Monday.

According to police account Dr.Aafia Siddiqi had been kidnapped by three unidentified men in 2003. SSP investigation Niaz Khosa and Dr.Fozia stated that investigation process has been started on the directive of higher authorities.

Dr. Aafia is behind bars in America these days and case is going on against her in American court.

Dr Aafia Siddiqui is charged with trying to kill American interrogators in Afghanistan. Her last hearing was on July 6 to determine if she is mentally fit to stand trial.

Dr Aafia Siddiqui is a 37-year-old US-trained neuroscientist who the U.S. government says has suspected links to al Qaeda.

Prosecutors say Siddiqui grabbed a US warrant officer’s rifle in mid-2008 while she was detained for questioning in Afghanistan and fired it at the interrogation team, which included two FBI agents, but no one was hit. The warrant officer then shot her with his pistol.

Siddiqui was transferred to the United States and charged with attempted murder and assault of U.S. soldiers. She has pleaded not guilty and no one has been able to verify her whereabouts for the five years before her arrest.
