ISLAMABAD: Spokesman of the Foreign Office, Abdul Basit on Friday underlined that the Pakistan Embassy in Washington will methodically pursue the hearing of the Pakistani neuroscientist, Aafia Siddiqui case staring from January 19, 2010.

Abdul Basit expressed these views while talking to a host of Journalists after participating in the meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Interior on Friday.

Abdul Basit went on to say that the Government and Foreign Ministry are taking diplomatic steps at high level for unconditional release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui. Replying to a question, Basit said that the war against terrorism cannot be won only through use of force, and that Pakistan does not want the situation in Afghanistan to aggravate.

Abdul Basit said that it appears that India is not serious in eradicating the scourge of terrorism. It is futile to have dialogue with India, if it is not ready to demonstrate solemnity, he stressed. India is well-aware of its involvement in the terrorist activities in Balochistan and FATA, he maintained, adding that Pakistan is in possession of its evidence.

On the other hand, the security agencies have rejected the demand made by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to deport five arrested American citizens and made it clear that they would not be deported till completion of investigation.

The First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged and sealed against detained American citizens in the Cantt Police Station under the Foreign Act as well as their alleged involvement in plotting terror attack in Pakistan, sources informed.—Agencies
