Ambassador Haqqani urges early repatriation of Dr Aafia Siddiqui
WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States Husain Haqqani met with U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and conveyed to him the Pakistani demand for earliest repatriation of Dr Aafia Siddiqui to her homeland.
Ms Siddiqui, a U.S.?educated neurological scientist is in American custody, facing charges of an alleged attempt to shoot at U.S. officials in Afghanistan.
The ambassador informed the attorney general about the Pakistani people’s sentiments and sensitivities on the issue of Dr Aafia’s detention.
He expressed the hope that the U.S. authorities would take into consideration the humanitarian aspect while deciding about the matter at the earliest.
