Eight more cases of missing persons reported F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: Eight more cases of missing persons have been reported during the last few weeks. This was disclosed by the Chairperson of Defence of Human Rights, Amna Masood Janjua, while addressing a Press Conference here Friday. She said all the abducted persons were true Pakistanis and responsible persons. They were neither terrorists nor militants, she added. While giving details about the missing persons, she said that Ahmed Noor was a banker by profession. He was abducted on August 19, 2008, she said adding that there was no one to take care of his family. He has a little daughter of about seven years. She said that another person Muhammad Sarfaraz was abducted from his home on October 17, 2008.

Amna Janjua said that she had a meeting with the Foreign Minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the other day. He assured her of raising the issue at every forum, including Parliament, she added. However, she said, state machinery had totally failed in recovering the missing persons. She said 607 cases of missing persons have been registered so far with Defence of Human Rights. In all 485 persons were abducted in the previous government and the remaining in the present “democratic” government, she said adding that no practical steps have been taken by the government to produce the missing persons. Father of a missing person Rehmatullah, said that on the night of December 23, 2008 more than four personnel of Elite Force and other secret agencies broke into his home and abducted his son Rehmatullah on gunpoint. Local Police refused to register any FIR in this regard, he added.
